STILL MOTION OPENS IN LOS ANGELES OCT 24th

LOS ANGELES – Following critically acclaimed installations at Ralph Pucci NYC and in the Renzo Piano Pavillion at Chateau La Coste Provence, Paul Mathieu and Ralph Pucci bring ‘Still Motion’ to Los Angeles October 24th. First unveiled earlier this year, the exhibition combines now-classic pieces and entirely new works and paintings charting Mathieu’s evolution not only as a designer, but also as an artist.

“These new pieces are inspired by my late father’s sculptures which surrounded him In his workshop in the French countryside where I would pass my time watching him work,” says Paul. This ‘motionless development’ signifies a moment in the trajectory of movement.

Paul worked in the Ralph Pucci Sculpting Studio developing three new designs for the show: an outdoor friendly chair and coffee table, and a standing lamp-named after female Jazz greats: Ella Fitzgerald, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Grace Jones.

Paul explains, “Once the singer has stopped performing, the music they created keeps going inside and along with us.”Following its debut, the DEE table (pictured in black and in white above) won a 2019 NYCxDESIGN Award and was called ‘the ultimate compliment’ by Ms. Bridgewater.

STILL MOTION invites visitors to participate in a meditative dialogue between furniture, objects, and works detached from their functional constraints. Highlighting Paul Mathieu’s unique style, it presents a rare opportunity to discover the designer’s celebrated body of work in one setting.

DEE COFFEE TABLE WINS NYCxDESIGN AWARD

NEW YORK – On May 20th the Dee coffee table by Paul Mathieu for Ralph Pucci was awarded a 2019 NYCxDESIGN Award in the Outdoor Furniture category.  This striking piece, which is part of the exterior portion of the ‘Paul Mathieu -Still Motion’ exhibition at Chateau la Coste (through May 22 and opening at Ralph Pucci Los Angeles in October) was inspired by an encounter with the musical and physical elegance of the legendary American jazz singer DeeDee Bridgewater who has called it “the ultimate compliment.”

As durable as it is beautiful, the Dee table celebrates Ms. Bridgewater’s work and the sculptural representations of objects in motion found in the Peul art of Mali.
